Scroll lag when many photos

Consider these two cases:

High-defs vs Low-defs

When scrolling through the pics, there is noticeable lag on the high-def ones vs low-def.

If, resizing the actual photos isn't an option, then what can I do to make the scrolling smoother for the high-def list?
