Retina Ready HTML image() Proper solution?

We know we can make a image retina ready using css3 media query like

@media
only screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2),
only screen and ( min--moz-device-pixel-ratio: 2),
only screen and ( -o-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2/1),
only screen and ( min-device-pixel-ratio: 2),
only screen and ( min-resolution: 192dpi),
only screen and ( min-resolution: 2dppx) {
}

Above media query to make retina ready images for background images. Is there any way to make a HTML image retina ready like

<img src="example.png" />

I need to mention here some more issues. The dimension of my image is 274x48 . And it's looking kind of blurry on retina screens. And this is the highest resolution of this image I have. Is there any way to make the image retina ready keeping the existing dimension and resolution. Thanks in Advance!
