JPEG compression for php imagejpeg() with best tradeoff quality/size

I am working on a php website with a lot of pictures and I was just wondering which is JPEG compression level with the best trade-off quality/size.

Is there any study which compares quality/size for several pictures? Is there a standard compression value to use? E.g. what compression level is used by Facebook in news feed?
