image Backup/Restore tool for windows Systems

I've been asked to develop a system image backup/restore tool for windows systems. I've browsed the web and read few blogs and also downloaded some open source backup tools like Ur-backup to study the backup process which seems complicated at first look. can anyone recommend me a better approach or point me towards some good documentations for a start? thank you
